Nicky joined Girl Effect in January 2019 after working in international development for 20+ years. Nicky is a trained Anthropologist from the University of Durham. She has an MSc in Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). Pursuing a concern for HIV/AIDS from time spent living in Thailand, Nicky joined Glaxo Wellcome’s Positive Action Programme in the late 1990s to manage their grant management programme to support people living with HIV and help drive the UN treatment access programme for developing countries. Nicky set up the founding secretariat for the Global Business Council on HIV/AIDS before joining the International HIV/AIDS Alliance (now Frontline AIDS) Technical Team.
Since then Nicky has been a consultant working with a wide range of clients including UNICEF, UNDP, CIFF, GFATM, Hivos, ITAD, Frontline AIDS, FHI360, PEPFAR, USAID, and SDC. Nicky’s consultancy work has focused mainly on sexual and reproductive health largely with adolescents, work with vulnerable children, child protection and advocacy. Nicky’s main roles included evaluation team leader, management of large programmes, training and facilitation of processes to develop bids, strategic plans, and Theories of Change.
Nicky has worked overseas for seven years in Thailand, Zimbabwe and South Africa and has worked across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Central and Eastern Europe.
