Putting empowering content in the hands of girls, globally
Facebook’s mission to bring the world closer together and build communities is complemented by Girl Effect’s understanding of vulnerable girls and expertise in creating content for them. By providing access to skills, ideas and knowledge – and crucially – role models and peers across multiple geographies, new communities are enabled and formed.
Facebook’s Free Basics platform provides people with access to useful services on their mobile phones. The websites on the platform are available for free, without data charges, enabling more people to the experience the benefits of connectivity, thus improving lives.
I’m so inspired by Farah and the entire Girl Effect team for showing us how technology and storytelling can give girls confidence – and drive a new generation of them to take on the world.
Girl Effect has partnered with Free Basics through our Springster brand, which became a content provider on the platform and reached over 12 million users in the past year. The entertaining, educational and empowering content is available in over 50 countries and 13 languages with in-depth content and advanced features in South Africa, Nigeria, the Philippines and Indonesia
Together, Girl Effect and Facebook are actively developing ways to expand their collaboration, working to solve real issues for girls through technology and the Springster brand.
